James Heads to the Lotto Six Days of Ghent.

Inspiration in Action: James’s Journey

A shining example of this pathway in action is James, from Lancaster, who has once again been invited to represent Special Olympics GB (Team SOGB) at the Lotto Six Days of Ghent, held 20–22 November 2025 in Flanders, Belgium.

The Lotto Six Days is a world-famous international track cycling competition, hosted at the legendary T Kuipke Cycling Stadium, where the best riders compete over six intense days. Thanks to organisers Golazo and Special Olympics Europe Eurasia (SOEE), up to nine high-ability Special Olympics athletes will take to the track, with James competing in the 1K Time Trial on Friday, 21 November.

From Local Club to International Stage

James is one of just six male athletes across Europe Eurasia selected for this prestigious event – recognition of his exceptional ability and achievements:

  • Special Olympics World Games, Berlin 2023 – two silver medals.

  • UEC Road Cycling European Championships 2024 – bronze medal for SOGB.

But beyond medals, James’s story shows the impact that Special Olympics and Mossley CRT can have. Cycling has helped him grow in confidence, independence, and self-esteem, while also giving him the chance to advocate for people with Intellectual Disabilities.

As a qualified Level 1 cycling coach, James now volunteers at a local club, inspiring others and promoting inclusivity in sport. His long-term goal is to become an Assistant Coach with SOGB, guiding the next generation of athletes on their own journeys.

A Message to Every Rider

James’s success shows our newer athletes that the pathway is real – and that their dreams are possible. His journey, from local club rider to international competitor, stands as living proof of what can be achieved with the right support, commitment, and belief.

In James’s own words:

“I’ve found my place in the world.”

James’s selection for the Lotto Six Days of Ghent is the perfect reminder of where Special Olympics can take you, not just for one rider, but for every athlete who dares to dream.
